Bryan Thomson is CEO of Harcourts New Zealand, the country’s largest real estate group.
A high-profile and respected member of the profession, he has more than 17 years experience in real estate, having originally started his career in the industry as a rural real estate sales consultant in 1991.
Originally from Murchison at the top of the South Island Bryan gained his first experience of the real estate industry while based in Te Anau as a stock agent and auctioneer for a national stock and station firm.
Success there led to Bryan completing his real estate license qualifications and relocating to Ashburton in Mid-Canterbury where he worked for four years as a real estate branch manager, sales consultant and auctioneer before accepting a corporate role with a large international real estate group assisting franchise owners and sales consultants with their business development in addition to training and conducting property auctions.
A national award-winning auctioneer, Bryan joined Harcourts in 1998 as Group Auction Manager and in this role helped to drive Harcourts’ auction business to a new level.
In 2000 he was promoted to the position of South Island Regional Manager, assuming responsibility for implementing Harcourts’ growth plans across all markets within this region, including through supporting Harcourts franchise owners, branch managers and sales consultants.
Appointed as CEO and becoming a Director and Shareholder of Harcourts New Zealand in 2002, Bryan’s leadership role is focused on driving the growth of Harcourts New Zealand. He is also a vital member of Harcourts’ International Limited’s senior management team.
A successful member of the industry and an excellent speaker, Bryan is regularly quoted by the media and sought after as an MC for industry events, in addition to conducting a select number of charity auction events each year.
A proud Mainlander now happily based in Auckland, Bryan is also a board member of www.realestate.co.nz, the New Zealand real estate industry-owned property portal.

Fix the spelling mistake. (17 years )
Thanks Phil, would love to say we did this to see who was awake and actually reading the blog but that would be a fib!
Fixed and done.

Bryan,
It cannot be any more appropriate that you have come out and start a blog called New Zealand Real Estate. I am happy that I am in a team where leaders lead the charge into the new world order that has undergone dramatic changes to the way things are done today.
It is even better if you can put a video voice over to your blog so that we can hear you make those comments over my speakers! ( Don’t know how to do it but would love to be able to enjoy hearing those comments) I have to strain my eyes reading the comments and response in blue print.
Good Luck. Will highlight the intro of your blog in my next newsletter
Alex
Hi Bryan,
